Dr. Megbelayin Olu Emmanuel, an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology, obtained basic medical education (MBBS) in Nigeria’s foremost University, the University of Ibadan. He obtained Fellowships in Small Incision Cataract Surgery at Sankara Eye Hospital, Chennai, India and in Vitreoretinal Surgery at Aravind Eye Hospital, Pondicherry, India and ChangGung Memorial Hospital, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. A Fellow of National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCOph), International College of Surgeon (FICS), Institute of Policy Management Development (FIPMD) and Vitreoretinal Surgery (FVRS) with Masters in Public Administration (MPA), Masters in Community Health Education [MSc. (Ed.)], and Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health Education, PhD (Ed.).
He is an author of ophthalmology textbooks, Megbelayin’s Ophthalmology Compendium being the latest. He has over 70 published peer-reviewed articles in reputable local and international journals and several presentations in local and international conferences. Dr. Megbelayin is an ophthalmic innovator and has also propounded many theories including Darktom theory and a phenomenon he christened Optical Impurities that shed light on aberropia.
He coined PATHOPIA, to described refractive anomalies arising from ocular pathologies. He is currently the Public Relation Office (PRO) of Vitreoretinal Society of Nigeria.
